Seçil Erel’s Solo Exhibition “Alliance” Opens at D Contemporary, London 3-15 June 2025

Seçil Erel, a Turkish-British artist who has long been based in London and also has a studio in Istanbul, is set to unveil her solo exhibition titled “Alliance” at D Contemporary in Mayfair, London. This exhibition features works created specifically for this occasion and will take place from 3rd to 15th June 2025, coinciding with the London Gallery Weekend.
The concept of “Alliance,” which serves as the title of the exhibition, reflects the dualities that create the whole within life and brings together the themes that Seçil Erel has been exploring for a long time.
In the early stages of her career, the artist focused on geometric and unitary relationships related to existence, examining them through the lenses of time, space, and memory. However, her journey to settle in London from her homeland —a path taken through difficult conditions and risks—gave rise to an in-depth exploration of inner worlds and life questions. In this context, the visual elements in her works seem to become the paintings themselves, with effects reminiscent of “zoom in-zoom out,” transforming into atmospheres that foster a deep dialogue between her analytical and creative intellect and spirituality.
Seçil Erel has entered a period in her artistic and personal journey that illustrates both physical and internal integration, touching on themes of rebirth, change, and transformation. In this regard, her previous exhibition's title, “State of Being,” resonates with the significance of the breath that now forms the foundation of this exhibition.
The works exhibit fictional coincidences representing gratitude, fulfilment, peace, and flexibility, as well as determination, dynamism, and skillfulness, allowing viewers to connect with their own emotions or thoughts. In the gallery’s two-section space, the artist will first present works that evoke modularity and geometry, alongside a representation of small changes produced by infinity. In the second section, she will showcase pieces in which the units themselves become the artworks.
The artist states about this exhibition:
“Alliance - We live in a world and universe that is a singular system in space, and our survival is interdependent on each other. Although we have boundaries and design our own space, we cannot survive without the dialogue we create with each and every human in the universe, a relentless alliance...”
Choosing a healthy and conscious lifestyle, prioritising physical exercise and meditation, Seçil Erel has found many answers and images in the research and presentations of neuroscientist Dr Joe Dispenza over the past eight years.
Dispenza asserts that change begins in the mind. “To change is to think greater than how we feel. To change is to act greater than the familiar feelings of the memorised self. If you want a new outcome, you will have to break the habit of being yourself, and reinvent a new self.”
In her works, Seçil Erel aims to discover ideals and the most beautiful possibilities in infinity through pieces that express abstract concepts and experiences, employing a range of colours, textures, and layers. The artist strives to transcend limits and patterns, aiming to connect, unify, and bring together concepts while simultaneously acting as a bridge between abstract notions and concrete forms.
“The intention behind the creations I produce is concerned with the atmosphere created by both content and visual power, alongside the value that the current era adds to life. In this rapidly changing and transforming environment, I am searching for the most ideal and beautiful aspects in infinity,” says Seçil Erel.
All the works in Seçil Erel’s exhibition, can be followed through the gallery’s and artist’s websites and social media accounts, as well as the prominent art platform, Artsy.
